A professional screenwriter, with award-winning credits for film and TV, Lindsay has taught screenwriting all over Ireland since 1996, with a stint running the screenwriting department of a film summer school in South Africa in 1998 and of the Liberties College in 2004-5.
In 2017, she compressed some of this course into Write That Script, a comprehensive, character-driven guide to writing your first screenplay (or honing your second, third, fourth!) which was published by Janey Mac Books. Her courses have been available in Filmbase, People’s College, University College Dublin and, most recently, at the Irish Writer’s Centre, Dublin. (Next course starting there on Sept 18th, 2019.)
As well as eight or ten week introductory courses, Lindsay has delivered masterclasses in third level institutions and at writing festivals throughout Ireland for all levels from MA students to secondary school students. She has also been a guest speaker on panels in Limerick, Cork and Dublin and a jury member for the Irish Film & TV Academy and various short film competitions in Kerry, Limerick, Kildare and Dublin.
In addition she designs and delivers shorter courses and workshops tailored towards particular interests or themes for libraries, festivals, private companies and schools. They can be 3 x 2.5 hours, 1 x 2.5 hours, four x 2 hours, half-day, full day and two day. Topics covered include screenwriting, character creation, series development, visual storytelling, breaking writer’s block, spinning stories, crafting scenes and dialogue, developing a TV series bible, pitching and more.
She also regularly reviews for Children’s Books Ireland and has written numerous articles on writing for online magazine (including writing.ie) and blogs. You can contact her at ljsedgwick@lindsayjsedgwick.com for rates and course pitches.
